When Microsoft bought Bethesda, one major concern was how the company would handle its massive back catalog of titles. The Elder Scrolls, Doom, Wolfenstein, and Fallout are all major Bethesda franchises, along with smaller series like Dishonored, Prey, and Rage. The company wants to reassure gamers that while it wants playing Bethesda games to be a first-class experience on Xbox, it explicitly doesn’t intend to deny that experience to customers of other platforms. Microsoft’s Tim Stuart, CFO of Xbox, recently participated in the Jefferies Interactive Entertainment Virtual Conference, a transcript of which is available at Seeking Alpha. The interview begins with Microsoft laying out how it hopes Xbox All Access and Game Pass will bring new customers into the Xbox ecosystem.

Experts don’t expect a radical change when the new US administration comes to power next year, so Huawei is beginning to take drastic action. It has backed by the local Chinese government, and Huawei will have zero ownership stake in the company going forward. That should allow Honor to become just another smartphone manufacturer that doesn’t have to deal with the intricacies of international relations. Huawei founded Honor in 2013, and by 2015 it was operating in more than 70 countries.
Astronomers have been trying to work out the nature of Fast Radio Bursts (FRBs) for the last several years, and a series of recent discoveries may have brought us tantalizingly close to unraveling the mystery. Last month, a team announced the discovery of an FRB in our own galaxy, giving scientists a chance to study these bizarre signals up close. The scientific community will have a lot of data on FRBs soon enough — a new study . Fast Radio Bursts were unknown until 2007 when a team discovered the first anomalous signal hiding in data from 2001. Since then, astronomers have spotted dozens of these ultra-high-energy bursts from sources in other parts of the universe.
Last week, Apple’s M1 SoC announcement and some initial benchmark data painted a picture of a formidable ARM-based laptop core that could challenge the best AMD and Intel have to offer. Now, new data from two additional benchmarks suggests a more nuanced picture — though not necessarily a very friendly one for AMD or Intel. We’ll start with Cinebench R23, the latest in a long line of rendering tests built by Maxon to highlight the performance of its Cinema 4D software. Average Joe: "Apple M1 is ultra fast, better than every x86 CPUs!" Cinebench R23 M1 (ST – 2.5 GHz): ~990
In the run-up to the Microsoft Series X launch, Microsoft made it clear that it would not be outmaneuvered two launches in a row. The Xbox Series X’s overall specs are better than the PlayStation 5 in several particulars, and it offers features like universal backward compatibility that the PlayStation 5 doesn’t have to the same degree. Microsoft also targeted a wider spread of price points than Sony did — while both companies offer a pair of consoles, Sony chose to target $400 and $500, while Microsoft went for $300 and $500. The difference between the two is that the PlayStation 5 Digital Edition ($400) lacks only a Blu-ray drive, while the Xbox Series S is meaningfully less powerful than the Xbox Series X and explicitly targets 1080p gaming.
The Playstation 5, Xbox Series X, and Xbox Series S . AMD’s Zen 3 processors recently went on sale, and its are just around the corner. On top of that, Cyberpunk 2077 is just a short wait away. Needless to say, it’s an exciting time to be a gamer, but what can possibly be more exciting than a new AAA title? Creating one, of course! Developers are the creative minds behind your favorite games, and learning how to make games of your own requires extensive coding experience. NASA and SpaceX carrying a group of astronauts to the International Space Station (ISS). This wasn’t the first time the Dragon capsule carried human passengers into space — that honor goes to the earlier this year. However, this is the first regular ISS crew rotation mission for NASA to utilize a commercial spacecraft. After years of development, the Commercial Crew Program has succeeded. The launch included three NASA astronauts: Shannon Walker, Victor Glover, and Michael Hopkins. The fourth crew member was JAXA’s Soichi Noguchi. This is the culmination of years of work at NASA and its commercial partners to design and test human-rated spacecraft that could replace the Space Shuttle for US launches.
Ampere only launched six months ago, but Nvidia is upgrading the top-end version of its GPU to offer even more VRAM and considerably more bandwidth. The A100 (80GB) keeps most of the A100 (40GB)’s specifications: 1.41GHz boost clock, 5120-bit memory bus, 19.5 TFLOPs of single-precision, NVLink 3 support, and its 400W TDP are all unchanged from the previous iteration of the GPU. Both chips also feature 6,192 GPU cores. What’s different is the maximum amount of VRAM (80GB, up from 40GB) and the total memory bandwidth (3.2Gbps HBMe, rather than 2.4Gbps HBMe). Bandwidth across the entire HBM2 array is 2TB/s, up from 1.6TB/s.
