If you were hoping for vastly improved performance, don’t hold your breath. In case you’ve been living under a rock for the last eight years, Cyberpunk 2077 has been one of the most anticipated games in history. CD Projekt Red (CDPR) was coming off a huge success with The Witcher 3, which is still one of the best games ever made, in my opinion. CDPR was promising Cyberpunk would put players in the middle of a vibrant, interactive metropolis, and the early demos and highlight reels made Night City look incredible.

Cryptocurrency Miners Bought 700,000 GPUs in Q1 2021

Cryptocurrency Miners Bought 700,000 GPUs in Q1 2021
Ever since Ampere’s launch in September 2020, there’ve been questions about how much of the shortage was driven by semiconductors and how much was driven by cryptocurrency demand. Reports over the last 10 months have pointed to various additional causes, including low yields at Samsung, GDDR6 shortages, and ABF (Ajinomoto Build-up Film) shortages. New work from Jon Peddie Research has filled in some blanks on how much cryptocurrency has contributed. According to JPR, component prices for GPUs have increased by as much as 70 percent. I’m perfectly willing to believe that board manufacturers have boosted their own prices to compensate for that, but the current GPU market remains ludicrously inflated.

We’ve Tested Windows 11 Ahead of Next Week’s Launch

We’ve Tested Windows 11 Ahead of Next Week’s Launch
On June 24, Microsoft will unveil its latest version of Windows, Windows 11. We spent some time with the OS today after a copy leaked online. The upgrade function didn’t work properly on our testbed and the system itself failed to recognize the OS image when we installed it on a bootable drive (both USB and not). Fortunately, VMWare Workstation Pro 16 can virtualize a TPM 2.0 module, provided you have one in your system. This specific OS image requires it. It took a few hours to get things squared away, but the eventual result was this desktop:

With the amount to which smartphones have become essential to everyday life, apps have also become central to the way we live. There’s a reason “There’s an app for that!” has become a modern quip – it’s true, you can use an app to measure your body weight, calculate complex equations, help you to your plants, guide you in cooking, track your fitness, find your lost things, and access your funds to pay for things. But there’s always another way a new app can make our lives easier, and making the change to work in app design is a potentially lucrative career step.

New EnVision Mission Will Study Venus Alongside NASA Probes

New EnVision Mission Will Study Venus Alongside NASA Probes
Planets like Mars and Jupiter have been the target of numerous high-profile robotic missions in the last few years, but Venus is starting to get the attention it deserves. Just a week after NASA to study Earth’s sister planet, the European Space Agency (ESA) has . The EnVision spacecraft won’t head off to Venus for about a decade, but once there, it could help scientists understand why Venus is a corrosive hellscape and Earth is a lush garden world. We often talk about how challenging it is to land spacecraft on Mars, but Venus is even more challenging. Well, not the landing part, but surviving.

China’s Mars Rover Snaps Incredible Selfie While Exploring

China’s Mars Rover Snaps Incredible Selfie While Exploring
China became only the second country to operate a rover on Mars last month when the six-wheeled Zhurong robot rolled down the ramp onto the red planet. Now, the rover has . One of the new pics is a selfie, showing both the rover and the landing platform. However, it doesn’t use the same trick as NASA’s Mars rovers to snap selfies. Zhurong landed on May 15th, but operators back on Earth took their time getting the robot down its ramp to ensure all systems were working correctly. After descending, Zhurong traveled about 10 meters from the lander to drop off a remote camera.
