As the pace of Moore’s Law advances have slowed, and the benefits of each new node have gotten steadily smaller, we’ve seen the various foundries adopt different ways of dealing with the problem. Intel has pursued traditional scaling, but is spending longer at each node. But companies like Samsung, GlobalFoundries, and TSMC have defined a system of short and long-lived nodes, with different characteristics and their own individual roadmaps for how long each node will last. Unlike TSMC and Samsung, both of which have 10nm products on their roadmaps, GlobalFoundries opted to leap straight for 7nm after licensing 14nm production from Samsung.

Last Friday, a bombshell report claimed that a massive leak of the Windows source code had taken place and was now available online. That leak — claimed to be 32TB — would represent an absolutely enormous amount of Windows code, dwarfing the Windows 2000 leak that occurred in 2004. New details, however, suggest that the leak, while still significant, may not represent the mammoth security breach initially implied. The Register, which , claims that the code is from Microsoft’s Shared Source Kit and includes “the source to the base Windows 10 hardware drivers plus Redmond’s PnP code, its USB and Wi-Fi stacks, its storage drivers, and ARM-specific OneCore kernel code.
Microsoft really, really wants you to use its Windows 10 browser, Edge. The company has come under fire for its relentless attempts to push consumers towards its own software, even going so far as to toss pop-up adds into the system tray when you’re running different browsers. In the late 1980s and early 1990s, Nintendo had one serious competitor — Sega. Other game consoles from various companies existed, to be sure. But only the Sega Genesis/MegaDrive (the system was branded differently in different markets) came anywhere near to matching the SNES in total shipments. The total count was 49.1 million for Nintendo, 33.75 million for Sega, and just 10 million for the TurboGrafx-16/PC Engine.
