The Pixel 2’s Screen May Have a Serious Burn-in Problem

The Pixel 2’s Screen May Have a Serious Burn-in Problem
Google is actively investigating reports of major screen burn-in in Pixel 2 devices. Multiple end users are reporting significant problems with burn-in, even after just a few days of using the device. Screen burn-in has been a problem for literally as long as we’ve had computers. It’s the problem screen savers were originally designed to help solve — if you displayed a rotating or spinning image (or a set of still images rotated through over time), you could mitigate the non-uniform pixel degradation that creates burn-in in the first place. LCDs have become much better at handling burn-in than they once were, but it still happens.

Much-Anticipated Giant Robot Fight Was Staged, Took 3 Days to Film

Not only was the fight pre-filmed, it was also staged over the course of three days. (Everything I believed in was a lie – Ed) There were three robot combatants in the two bouts streamed last week.

Windows 10 Now Integrates Its Own Cheat-Detection Capabilities
Cheating is a problem in virtually every online game. While it takes different forms depending on the title in question, I’ve seen farm bots in World of Warcraft and League of Legends and encountered everyone’s favorite: People who use cheats in FPS games to shoot through walls, fire perfect shots from across the map, and/or one-shot everyone in sight with a perfect headshot. Many companies periodically smash these players with a banhammer, but it’s a constant fight between those who want to cheat and those who want to stop them. Now, Microsoft is getting into the fray with its own cheat-detection options, debuted as part of the Fall Creators Update.

Blue Origin’s Successful Engine Test Fire Puts SpaceX on Notice

Blue Origin’s Successful Engine Test Fire Puts SpaceX on Notice
Up until now, the majority of ongoing US-based rocket coverage has focused on SpaceX. There are multiple reasons for that, ranging from the company’s groundbreaking use of reusable rockets to the simple fact that NASA doesn’t currently have a launch vehicle of its own to crow about. Companies like Jeff Bezos’ Blue Origin have rated a distant second or third, if only because they’ve been well behind SpaceX’s overall launch and deployment schedule, with seemingly little chance of catching up. First hotfire of our BE-4 engine is a success — Blue Origin (@blueorigin) Blue Origin hasn’t caught up–not yet–but it did a major step forward for its own rocket engine yesterday.
