Scientists studying the moon have made an unexpected discovery. While we have good data on the surface topography, there’s still a lot we don’t know about what lies beneath the craggy craters and dunes. A large crater in the southern polar region , possibly the remains of an ancient metallic asteroid. The region, known as the South Pole-Aitken basin, is one of the largest known impact craters measuring about 1,600 miles (2,500 kilometers) in diameter. While larger impacts have occurred (including some on Earth) the moon’s unchanging environment is much better at preserving the evidence of impacts. This distinction makes the South Pole-Aitken basin a subject of frequent research.

A security researcher named Cwerling has released a new tool, called PSPTool, that researchers can use to analyze the firmware used by AMD’s Secure Platform Processor (PSP). Note: PSPTool has nothing to do with Sony’s old PSP handheld. AMD’s PSP is its equivalent of the and has been criticized for many of the same issues as . Security researchers have been publicly unhappy with AMD and Intel’s decision to keep details of how these chips operate under wraps because they function in secret, entirely divorced from the operation of the primary CPU or operating system. If you can hack the IME or AMD’s PSP, you can theoretically run code on a computer that’s completely invisible to the end-user.
Google revealed more information about its Stadia service this week, including the expected bandwidth required for the service to work properly. If you want to stream games in 4K, you’d better either have a no-cap ISP or do relatively little gaming on a household basis. According to Google, Stadia will require a 35Mbps connection to maintain a steady 4K service. That’s 1.4x more bandwidth than Netflix, which requires a 25Mbps connection for 4K. In per-MB terms, a 35Mbps connection will eat 15.75GB per hour. If you have a 1TB connection, that’s about 65 hours of gaming per month — if gaming is all you do.
