Just Kidding: Samsung Hasn’t Sold 1 Million Galaxy Folds After All

Just Kidding: Samsung Hasn’t Sold 1 Million Galaxy Folds After All
Samsung’s president Young Sohn raised eyebrows yesterday when he said at an event in Germany that the company had . Sohn touted this as proof that Samsung’s decision to launch the “luxury” smartphone despite the ongoing issues was the right one. Now, Samsung has via Korea’s Yonhap news agency that Sohn was incorrect — it hasn’t sold that many phones. Usually, Samsung announcing a million phone sales would be rather poor performance. It usually moves several million phones in the first month of a big release. However, the Fold is no ordinary smartphone. It’s the first Google-blessed foldable device in the world, and it costs a whopping $2,000.

Microsoft’s Xbox Series X: Definitely More X’s Than the Leading Competitive Brand

Microsoft’s Xbox Series X: Definitely More X’s Than the Leading Competitive Brand
Last night, Microsoft officially unveiled what we’ve been referring to as the Xbox Next (Project Scarlett). Anyone hoping for the sudden appearance of a coherent Xbox branding strategy had their hopes dashed — the follow-up to the Xbox One is the Xbox X Series. In one stroke, Microsoft has taken a commanding lead in the “most appearances of a rare Scrabble tile” category. Pity the PlayStation 5, with its predictable naming scheme! Snark aside, the best I can say for Xbox Series X is that it abbreviates agreeably to “Xbox SX” or “XSX.” Microsoft probably likes it because there’s no “Xbone” equivalent.

AT&T Launches 5G You’re Actually Allowed to Use

AT&T Launches 5G You’re Actually Allowed to Use
If you ask AT&T, it’ll tell you it was the first US carrier to launch 5G at the very end of 2018, but that’s only true by some very narrow definitions of the word “launch.” It wouldn’t let most people actually buy or use phones on its 5G network, but that’s finally changing. AT&T has covering several markets, and it’ll even sell you a 5G phone. Just be ready to drop $1,300 on it. AT&T’s 5G rollout started in late December 2018 with millimeter-wave coverage in a handful of cities. That’s the same technology Verizon used in its rollout, but unlike Verizon, AT&T chose not to sell consumer devices when it deployed its first 5G markets.

Inexplicably, Samsung Says It Has Sold 1 Million Galaxy Folds
Samsung talked a big game in the lead-up to the Galaxy Fold launch, hoping to build up hype for the first-of-its-kind phone. Facebook Will Now Use Oculus VR Data for Ads Just as Everyone Expected

Facebook Will Now Use Oculus VR Data for Ads Just as Everyone Expected
Well, here it is. When Facebook bought Oculus, it assured users that it wouldn’t be using any data gathered via Oculus VR for advertising. It’s a question that’s come up again and again over the years, and it’s always been answered the same way: Oculus and Facebook do not and will not combine data… Except, now, they do. Oculus changes to its privacy policy regarding how data is shared between Oculus and Facebook when you connect an Oculus Rift to your FB account. You are not required to connect your Oculus account to Facebook in order to use your Rift.
