NASA is still working to get the Space Launch System (SLS) ready to fly on its first demo flight, but the first real SLS mission will be to send humans back to the moon. NASA administrator Jim Bridenstine has suggested that NASA may reevaluate its proposed landing zone for the Artemis moon mission. Rather than heading to the south pole, the mission . During a recent web broadcast from the Lunar Exploration Analysis Group (LEAG), Bridenstine discussed the agency’s latest plans for Artemis. Officially, the mission is still planned for a polar landing. However, Bridenstine mused on the possibility of an equatorial mission.
Apple was not the first tech giant to jump into the smartwatch game, but shows unequivocally that it’s doing it better than everyone else. The Apple Watch Series 6 adds a new health sensor, a better processor, and a brighter display, and it still maintains the good-enough battery life that has made it nearly ubiquitous among the iPhone faithful. You almost have to wonder why Google is still bothering with Wear OS. At a basic level, the new Apple Watch is the same old wearable. It comes in two sizes, both of which have a small, square OLED screen.
One question after the ambush shooting of two California cops sitting in their police car Saturday: How many ways could it have been avoided? One answer is that technology available on some police cars might have helped: sensors that track the outside activity on the sides and behind the car, provide a motion trail showing people walking toward or away from the car, and optionally, a rear video feed. That scenario describes what happened to the two LA deputy sheriffs in Compton: A gunman approached from the side, walked up the passenger side of the car, and opened fire, apparently with the deputies otherwise occupied.
For years, USB advanced at a predictable rate — USB2 was faster than USB, USB3 was faster than USB2, and now, USB4 is even on the horizon. In the last few years, the once-simple standard has broadened and become more confusing. There are now multiple types of USB3, including USB 3.0, USB 3.1 Gen 1, USB 3.1 Gen 2, USB 3.2 Gen 1×1, USB 3.2 Gen 2×1, USB 3.2 Gen 1×2, and USB 3.2 Gen 2×2. Then, on top of that, there’s the question of USB-C. How does it fit in? D0n’t feel bad if you find this confusing. The USB-IF has done everything it possibly could have to ensure nobody can make sense of which USB standard a device supports, partly by repeatedly changing the name of previous standards as it updates brand guidance.
Charlie Bolden ran NASA from 2009 until early 2017, and before that, he went into space four times as an astronaut. So, when he talks about the Space Launch System () he oversaw at the agency, you can trust he knows what he’s talking about. In a new interview, Bolden spoke of the incredible advances made by commercial spaceflight companies like SpaceX. In fact, he sees a day when the SLS could be mothballed . Bolden has been supportive of the SLS program in the past, which is what you’d expect from the NASA administrator. As recently as 2016, Bolden said that companies weren’t ready to take on super-heavy-lift designs that can lift payloads to the moon and beyond.
Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. It’s also a really good way to find out exactly how that original thing happened in the first place. If you want to know how some of the greatest video games were actually created, you can learn a lot by just trying to make the same game yourself. Of course, it doesn’t hurt if you’ve got a powerful resource like the ultra-popular Unity game engine powering your projects either. Your valuable insight into the process of creating cool new gaming experiences can start with the training in . Regularly a $1,400 package, it’s available now for a whole lot less, .
Update(9/11/2020): Yesterday, 505 Games accidentally gave PS4 owners who purchased the Digital Deluxe edition of the game to the Ultimate Edition as well, despite stating previously that this was impossible. According to the original 505 Games blog post referenced below, “The upgrade path that we are offering is only possible when upgrading from the same version of the game.” But since people on the PlayStation Network were immediately given access to the Ultimate Edition for having purchased the Digital Edition, the strong implication here is that this is the same version of the game. 505 Games has since caught the error and reverted the problem, meaning that all the PS4 owners who briefly had the Ultimate Edition are still expected to pay $40 for it, even if they’ve bought both DLCs and the base game already.
Apple has maintained an iron grip on the iOS software ecosystem since the platform launched, but 2020 has brought new challenges. While Apple wrangles with Epic in court, Google and Microsoft are pushing to get cloud gaming on iOS. Apple has caved on cloud gaming today — a little. The latest App Store rules allow for cloud gaming apps like xCloud and Stadia, but the proposed restrictions are ludicrous. Apple’s alleged objection to cloud gaming services is that they don’t play on a level field with native games that have store pages and appear on charts. Apple’s 30 percent cut of each individual sale undoubtedly has something to do with it as well, but the company won’t admit to that directly.
