Software development and engineering is a booming industry where many can find a successful and fulfilling career – and most often those positions are higher paid than average. Software engineers help the computing and internet worlds turn, keep hardware running at optimal efficiency, and ensure businesses and people can achieve what they set out to, without complex computing problems getting in the way. But this world of information technology is always changing, as quickly as from month to month or week to week, and it’s essential that software engineers maintain their knowledge and keep up to date with the latest trends, changes, and innovations.

What Kind of Performance Should We Expect from Intel’s Alder Lake?

What Kind of Performance Should We Expect from Intel’s Alder Lake?
Interest in Alder Lake is running high as we move into the back half of the year and closer to the CPU family’s launch date. Alder Lake is intended to be a major step forward for both Intel and x86 CPU design in general. Historically, x86 CPUs have all been based on a cluster of identical CPU cores, in contrast to ARM, which has mixed big and little cores on the same SoC for a decade now. Alder Lake will be the first x86 CPU to adopt this trend, with its combination of Golden Cove “big” cores and Gracemont “little” cores.

LG’s Battery-Powered Mask Will Contain Mic, Speakers
When LG announced its last year, its priority was to develop wearable technology that would protect consumers without sacrificing comfort or hygiene. According to LG, of the PuriCare Wearable Air Purifier minimizes the inconveniences of frequent face mask use. The company’s new VoiceON technology is intended to reduce mask muffling by automatically sensing when the user is speaking and amplifying their voice via the built-in speaker. Gone will be the days of helplessly repeating your coffee order to the barista at your favorite haunt.

Intel Rebrands Its Future Process Nodes, Updates Roadmap

Intel Rebrands Its Future Process Nodes, Updates Roadmap
Intel has made some major changes and announcements concerning upcoming products and how future improvements to the company’s manufacturing will be communicated. These changes will have a significant impact on how we talk about Intel products going forward. , there was an industry group responsible for defining the characteristics of each new lithography node and an agreed-upon convention for what a new node meant. The actual practice of naming a node in nanometers — 45nm, 32nm, 28nm, and so on — has been divorced from any objective metric for many years now. Today, TSMC, Intel, and Samsung all have different standards for what a given “node” is.

SuperBIT Will Send Telescopes to the Edge of Space With a Giant Balloon

SuperBIT Will Send Telescopes to the Edge of Space With a Giant Balloon
Hubble has been orbiting Earth for decades, capturing incredible images of the cosmos that aren’t possible with other instruments. That’s not because Hubble is the biggest, and it’s certainly lacking in modern technology. Hubble is unmatched because of where it is, far above Earth’s murky atmosphere. A new project from Durham University, Princeton University, NASA, and others envisions a cheaper way to get telescopes into a similarly unobscured position. It’s called SuperBIT, and instead of rockets, . As we watch NASA put the finishing touches on the long-delayed James Webb Space Telescope, it’s apparent just how much work goes into spacecraft like the JWST.

EA Announces Dead Space Remake

EA Announces Dead Space Remake
EA announced it’s remaking the original Dead Space. I’ve actually been playing Dead Space 2 (again) in the last few weeks, so this unveil feels quite timely. The game is being developed by Motive Games, though information on the project is currently limited. EA’s Dead Space trilogy — particularly the first two — are some of the finest single-player games ever made. They blend horror and science fiction in an alternate universe where mankind developed the ability to crack open planets and harvest their resources to feed its own ever-growing need for raw materials. You play as Isaac Clarke, an engineer sent to investigate the fate of the oldest planet-cracker in the fleet, the USG Ishimura.

This Device Fast Charges and Automatically Backs Up Data Simultaneously
Data has become a commodity – and it’s of most value to those who create it. Devices like your smartphone contain a huge amount of data, both sensitive information like passwords, contact information, and credit cards, but also the information created day to day, like images, videos, emails, and documents. If you’re not properly backing up your information, you risk losing it. Who hasn’t accidentally damaged an iPhone, and lost months’ worth of communication, images, and more, never to be seen again because you didn’t back them up? The information on our smartphones has become more valuable than that on our computers – and backing up your data is more important than ever.

41 Percent of Those Planning to Buy a Car May Go Electric, Study Finds
(Photo: Ernest Ojeh/Unsplash)A new from Ernst & Young has revealed that out of those looking to buy their next car, 41 percent are interested in going electric. EY surveyed consumers from 13 major international markets (Australia, Canada, China, Germany, India, Italy, Japan, New Zealand, Singapore, South Korea, Sweden, the UK, and the US) and found that the degree of interest varies by country—only 17 percent of Australian consumers are thinking of going electric, compared with 48 percent of those in China and 63 percent in Italy. But overall, the shift marks a significant 11 percent jump in EV interest from EY’s study last year.
