Tesla has quietly made an adjustment to the fulfillment memo on its stating that customers won’t be able to receive or even configure their trucks until 2022. It’s no surprise, given that Elon Musk said during Tesla’s that attempting to build a Cybertruck today would “literally cost one million dollars a piece.” The Cybertruck is intended to run on 4680 battery cells, Tesla’s latest battery technology the company unveiled last fall on its Battery Day event. Tesla is constructing the 4680 cells through a project called Roadrunner, which is meant to speed up production times and reduce costs.
For anyone living in what has become known as the wildland-urban interface (WUI), wildfires are a growing threat. As communities have spread out, the number of people residing in a WUI has increased dramatically. Coupled with frequent droughts and seasonal strong winds, the result has been some of the deadliest wildfires ever in California and other western states. The prognosis isn’t improving, and this year fire season has already started early. A new complication is that in order to mitigate the threat of electrical line and transformer-related fires, utilities have started proactively turning off power to potential trouble spots before a fire occurs.
(Photo: PC Gamer) Valve’s Steam Deck is shaping up to have the capabilities of a full tower PC with the comfort and flexibility of the Nintendo Switch—but with a few extra features tacked on. Thanks to strong pre-order demand, Valve has already until Q2 2022 and beyond, depending on the configuration. It may be worth the wait, as the company claims the , despite its APU and related lower-end hardware specs. Although it may be some time before we get hard info on that, there’s more we’re learning now, as , , and others just went hands-on with the Steam Deck at Valve’s office.
Password security is of the utmost importance in the modern era, when nefarious interests on the internet can hack your devices and steal your data. Securing your information just makes sense, and using the right programs with the right level of security is the best way to go. Of course, a vault that’s accessed by password can do much of the heavy lifting here, but there are even more secure ways to lock away your data and ensure that no one can get their hands on it but you. And the best news is that it’s a small device that’s easy to use and can be discreetly stored.
SpaceX is the world’s largest satellite operator with thousands of Starlink internet nodes in its orbital constellation, and you can add 150 more to the tally. SpaceX has informed regulators that it’s buying a satellite internet startup called Swarm. This firm focuses on so-called “nano satellites” for IoT applications, but the FCC filings don’t say why SpaceX wants to buy the company. In its notice to the FCC, SpaceX says that the Swarm acquisition will help it expand coverage. “The Proposed Transaction will serve the public interest by strengthening the combined companies’ ability to provide innovative satellite services that reach unserved and underserved parts of the world,” SpaceX wrote.

In NAND storage, density, durability, and performance form the three points of the typical “iron triangle” that companies attempt to optimize. It’s a classic case of a “You can have any two of these three features” scenario. We can build very durable NAND with incredible performance and low density (single-level cell, abbreviated SLC) or NAND with excellent density and low durability and performance (quad-level cell, abbreviated QLC). Companies are now exploring penta-level cell (PLC) NAND, but it’s still not clear if such designs are commercially viable. According to Neo Semiconductor, it’s developed a method of building NAND that offers the performance of SLC and the density of QLC.
Any regular user of computers knows that the data and files we gather have a habit of building up, cluttering our devices and slowing them down. Without proper storage, even the simplest commands on a laptop or desktop computer can take much longer to process, which means you work slower. Manually adding storage to your device is difficult and expensive, but luckily there’s a range of services that allow for added storage without changing your hardware. Cloud storage services are booming right now, but which one is best for you? Right now, you can get a one-year subscription to for the reduced price of $29.99, a significant saving of 68 percent off the full purchase price of $95.
