Anyone considering a purchase of the Pixel 5a should be aware that the device appears to either be bugged or legitimately overheating when attempting to shoot 4K video. Reports of this behavior first surfaced earlier this week, but they’ve been confirmed by several users and publications. After a few minutes of 4K60 capture, the Pixel 5a will shut down the camera and report an overheating error. Hot Hardware two Pixel 5a units and tested both of them to gauge whether the problem is real. In both cases, Pixel 5a phones failed within 5-8 minutes. What’s odd about this is that neither phone actually got all that warm to the touch.
Back in 2019, AMD made PCI Express 4.0 the centerpiece of its Zen 2 launch. The X570 motherboard family paired well with the Zen 2 CPU family, and the increased I/O support gave AMD an additional argument for why some buyers might prefer its chips over Intel’s. Now, it looks as though Intel will leap ahead with Alder Lake, while AMD has no immediate plan to follow on desktop. AMD’s next Epyc refresh, Genoa, which will be built on Zen 4, is expected to offer PCIe 5.0, so AMD will apparently split its refresh plans between desktop and server next year.
Another version of The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim will be hitting the market this fall, but this one marks a special occasion. On November 11, Skyrim will celebrate its 10th birthday with an “Anniversary Edition” by Bethesda late last week. This is Skyrim’s third (or , depending on who you ask) iteration, following the original release and , the latter of which added in console mod support, graphical upgrades, and a better game engine. The new Anniversary Edition will not only contain the base game and its three expansions (Dawnguard, Hearthfire, and Dragonborn) but will also come with all of the upgrades from the Special Edition and then some.
You might want to keep an eye on your USB ports for the next few days. A security researcher has disclosed a disturbingly easy way to , and for once, it’s not Microsoft’s fault. This time, it’s all thanks to Razer and its Synapse software. A fix is in the works, but Razer missed the opportunity to head this one off before it was a problem. The story starts with security researcher Jonhat (@j0nh4t on Twitter), who noticed that Razer’s Synapse software would deploy automatically whenever a Razer mouse or wireless receiver was plugged in. Like many feature-rich gaming peripherals, Razer requires the use of its desktop software to control lights, button mapping, and other features.

Instead of being based on traditional metrics, the group believes banks should begin incorporating additional information, including your browser history. The rise of fintech services and cryptocurrencies have changed modern banking in a number of ways, and banks face an increasing number of challenges as various third-party payment processors interpose themselves between financial institutions and their traditional customers. The credit scoring systems used broadly in the US and Europe are based on so-called “hard” information — bill payments, pay stubs, and how much of your current credit limit you are tapping.

We’re coming up on a year since Ampere launched, but anyone hoping for a new graphics card at MSRP in the near future may be out of luck. “I would expect that we will see a supply constrained environment for the vast majority of next year is my guess at the moment,” Nvidia CEO Jen-Hsun Huang told investors on a Thursday conference call. “A lot of that has to do with the demand being so great.” According to PCMag, Huang stated Nvidia roughly 20 percent of its customer base to Ampere, despite the fact that the GPU has been on the market for 11 months.

Morabito / DESI Legacy Imaging Surveys)This week, astronomers snapped some of the most high-definition galaxy photographs ever taken—ones they think will transform our understanding of how galaxies evolve. Researchers at Durham University in the UK combined radio signals from over 70,000 antennae across nine European countries to capture the images, to BBC News. The collection of antennae, called for Low Frequency Array, is currently the largest radio telescope operating at the lowest frequencies that can be detected from Earth. , the radio astronomer who led the project, has worked with her team for six years to devise a new way of collecting, digitizing, processing, and combining each antenna’s signal into photos.
