Samsung Teases Its ‘Most Powerful Galaxy’ Yet for April Unpacked Event
Samsung long ago gave up announcing its phones at industry tradeshows like CES and MWC, which is handy now that the pandemic has scrapped all those events. Samsung is still streaming its own Unpacked events for new products, and there’s one coming up this very month. Samsung says it’s going to unveil the “the most powerful Galaxy” device it’s ever made on April 28th.
The “trailer” below doesn’t offer any concrete details about the nature of the device, but it’s tempting to assume this has something to do with the Galaxy Z Fold3. After all, the “Galaxy” branding is primarily associated with the company’s mobile products.
We don’t believe Unpacked will feature Samsung’s next foldable — the rumor mill still says the Fold3 will arrive in July, allowing it to take over the late summer slot from the missing Note phone. However, Samsung’s Galaxy Book laptop lineup is due for an update, and refreshed Intel chips could arguably make such devices “the most powerful Galaxy.”
Samsung announced the current Galaxy Book laptops in 2019, but they didn’t launch until May of 2020. They run on Intel’s 10th Gen Comet Lake CPUs, which are already looking a bit long in the tooth. Intel has moved on to the 11th Gen Tiger Lake architecture. Slap one of those in a new Galaxy Book, and it would easily be the most powerful device with “Galaxy” in its name.
It’s possible the event will showcase the rumored Galaxy Book Pro laptops, which could feature 13.3 and 15.6-inch OLED screens with S Pen support. Upgraded internals, including the new Intel chips, seems like a sure thing. There may even be a version of the laptops that includes 5G connectivity. We’ll find out for sure on April 28th at 10 AM ET.
