May 26 – The Executive Committee of the Romanian Football Federation (FRF) has issued a statement saying that it unanimously supports Aleksander Čeferin to retain the UEFA presidency for the 2027–2031 term.
Čeferin (pictured right with FRF president Răzvan Burleanu) said in 2024 that he wouldn’t stand for another term. But since then there has been no obvious candidate put themselves forward while federations have privately urged him to stand again. He has yet to formally announce his candidacy. Presidential candidates have to submit their candidacy at least two months before the date of the election.
Presuming that he does, he will have the full support of the FRF in the elections that will take place during the UEFA Congress on April 22, 2027, in Astana, Kazakhstan.
“Since his election in 2016, Aleksander Čeferin has provided strong, forward-looking leadership. Under his guidance, UEFA has fostered cooperation, solidarity, and unity, driven by a clear vision for football development in every corner of the continent and the strengthening of European football’s global position,” said the FRF statement.
“The FRF believes that through his inspirational and transformative approach, the UEFA President has helped build a trusted, dynamic, and sustainable organization.
“In light of these achievements, as well as the future opportunities and challenges ahead, the FRF Executive Committee voted unanimously to officially support and cast their vote for Aleksander Čeferin for the position of UEFA President at the upcoming Congress,” the statement concluded.
